No, just use one or two inputs from the gamepad. The sony stick is just a bunch of different resistors so it gives a different resistance value for each button press, while the stick on a gamepad is a variable resistor. It gives different resistance values as you move it. So basically, each button will act like the stick is moved to a different position. You would also want to connect the shift button to the fire button on the gamepad.

I've tried do connect the sony joystick to one of the axis of a thrustmaster gamepad and I didn't a usefull response, but i didn't disconected the built in joystick.
I read on a thread that would't work, so I did't had mutch truble.

I'm going to buy a joystick to usb adaptor.

You probably need to disconnect the pot on the stick. Otherwise, in parallel with it, it's not going to change the value much if any.

I just discovered that the rmx4s that I bought used on eBay wasn’t doing the right contact in the buttons (almost none). I had to brush the contacts.
I’m going to try again with the game pad when I have time.
    Thanks

Anyone tried this with an connect2 adapter, converting the stalk to sony format ?

I have got things working with a normal X4S but when changing to the connects2 nothing happens.

When using my multimeter on the X4S i can see resistance changing when pressing buttons, but on the connects2 it's dead.

I have confirmed that the connects2 is actually working by connecting it to a sony radio - no problems here.

    The Connects2 i got is a DPGS003 - Any idears ?

    Thanks

    sony and gamepad

Iīve been trying to use the rmx4s with the trustmaster gamepad for a few days, but didnīt get a useful response.

On the grider plugin I can see the y axis values changing, after the calibration in windows, but sometimes it takes too mutch time to return the "press off", other times didnīt even get a "press on" signal.

I had to clean very well the remote board because it wasn't working (didnīt get the right values in the multimeter), maybe because it was used on a motorcicle (it was a second hand buy on ebay), but now I think it's ok.

Is it because of the gamepad variable resistors are 10K and the ones you've been using with the gameport adapter are 120k?? Maybe it's not having enough current through the x4s?! The remote jack is connected to a "fixed point" and on the tip of the jack is on the slide point of the resistor.

I didnīt disconected the y axys variable resistor because that way didn't work.

Also, using the jack ring connected to a button "common" terminal I get a "2F0" instead of "60" on the girder plugin, but on girder I get BTN:5:1 .
    Is it ok this way?
How can I put a valid command just when EventString 1 and EventString 2 are recived (to use with the disc change buttons)?

should I buy a gameport adapter?!

Alex, make sure you have the right plugin running. The Joystick one uses BTN: and the JoyAxis one I made uses the X4S: event, so enable JoyAxis and disable Joystick. The reason it didn't work with the other pot disconnected is because it needs something connected to both X and Y for Windows to detect it as a joystick. If it had 10K it will still work the same with the original setup. The voltage it reads is the important part. For example: Gnd-10K-input-10K-5V is the same as Gnd-100K-input-100K-5V. Both will read 2.5V on the input, not including the load of the input.

I'm using JoyAxis. That button error must be because I wasn't using transistor for the Shift button (it was direct to the button).
The gamepad isn't working well (the axis are dead), so i've got to buy another one first.

I still dont know how to "send a message" only when I have 2 commands on girder (to the shift+press function), nor how can I put the delayed commands (for press and hold).

Oh, yeah the BTN is for button presses, so I guess it's getting a press. That transistor is used to ground it when you press shift since buttons usually connect the input to ground and the stick only has 5V and X-axis connections.

I don't know much about girder though. I think the values are parameters for the commands?

    hi curiosity, gore et al....

i've been following this thread for ages... waiting waiting waiting for my rm-x2s to be sent to me from ~800km way.. (i left it at my old house before i moved house!) ... anyway it never seemed to arrive. after calling a few car stereo stores it seemed I couldnt even buy one - Sony dont manufacture them any more... then LUCK at a sony factory seconds store... found a brand new x4s for the bargain price of 20 australian dollars.. (approx $15 US)

anyway, now its time to interface it!

the one question i have is... where abouts do I find the latest girder plugin for this? i'll pm curiosity but yeh... i just want to make sure i have the latest version!

    thanks! you guys rock!

    edit: found it!
