I've just buyed the sony xm2s remote from ebay and an usb to gameport adapter. Next week I'll buy the needed electronic components:
2 x 120 KOhm 1/4W resistor
1 x 4,7 KOhm 1/4W resistor
1 x BC547 PNP transistor
Is this all the hardware that I need to have the complete system?
For the software side I'll need girder and joypad.dll... Something else?
The complete system allows to use all the buttons on remote? And can control every function in roadrunner?
I've just received the usb to gameport adapter and connected to my notebook. I was expecting of some message from the OS for new hardware detected but nothing similar happens! Is this normal? I also cannot see any gameport device in the windows devices list.
I still don't know if the adapter works because I have no joystick or gamepad to test it and still have to buy the electronic stuff (transistor etc.) for girder&Co.
If anyone use an adapter like mine please let me know if windows does'nt show it in any way.
This is the adapter I buyed:
You should hear a ding when you plug it in. Make sure you install the drivers that came with it. What brand is it? Never seen it before.
No ding when plugging and no drivers provided! I've buyed it on ebay, see here:

I think that's like the top one here (sidewinder adaptor):
I think it's just 2 connectors. The others have electronics in them. The sidewinder appears to have a USB interface built in. Sorry.
I'm a little confused :S How is it possible that 2 versions of the same cable, one with electronics and the other without electronics, do the same thing (i.e. connect your joystick to an usb port)??
If this adapter works for a joystick (and I think that every person that buy a similar adaptor needs it for this purpose!) why it don't work for my need?:confused:
I don't know. I guess try it. It just looks way too small to have a USB interface in it. If it is the sidewinder adaptor, they say it can damage your computer if used with another gamepad/joystick. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/189076
download link joypad
For other people who are searching for the/a joypad.dll download location:

I found it after 6 hours searching and finding dead links. :ranger:
So for other people who needs it, here it is!
I think I just bought the wrong device!!!!!!!!!! I bought the RM-X5S, is this one usable?
Anyone know if this will work with an older Saitek joystick with game port connection? I replaced it on my home pc a few years ago with a newer USB version so I have the old one laying around thinking I could possiby use it for something. I have recently had visions of a joystick control in my car for a carputer and started searching this forum for possibilities. Was also wanting to explore use within programs other than audio (different functionality in different applications).
Also after reading the entire thread I'm somewhat confused. Can someone list out the steps, hardware required & software (any common settings?)? Maybe make it a how-to sticky.
