    Pcmcia

    Hey guys,

I have a troubling problem with a small form-factor computer I am working on. The computer has several USB ports, no serial, one mini-pci, no PCI ports. I need to connect a PCMCIA card to this compute somehow and I am having trouble figuring out how. I have looked all around for information about USB to PCMCIA adapters with little luck, do these even exist? Would it even work? Well, thanks for any advice or suggestions!

Do you have a parallel port? I'm guessing that you are not using a printer in your car. If the parallel port is not going to be used for something else then you could do something with this:

Didn't shop around so there may be better prices elsewhere.

What specific type of PCMCIA device are you talking about?

Depending on the device, there might be some options.

    Best regards

Unfortunately there is no parallel either Only VGA, Stereo, USB, Ethernet and composite/S-video. I am trying to connect this FLASH-OFDM network card from flarion: http://www.flarion.com/products/over...t_Overview.pdf

I have done some searching on this as well and have yet to find a usb to pcmcia adapter that did something other than work as a card reader. Why not just get a usb network adapter like the Linksys WUSB11? Sell that pcmcia card on ebay or something. You can even get a different usb adapter that would allow you to use a different antenna and get even better range.

Well, the thing this PCMCIA card gets me is that it is for cell-based Wi-Fi internet access. I can use it anywhere in the Metropolitian area I live and give me about 1.5Mbps down and 750k up. I don't think even with some fancy antennas I could get that good coverage with 802.11, can I? Thanks for the reply!

If you get a good connection it would be faster. 802.11b is 11Mbps with a great connection and 802.11g is 54Mbps. Only problem is finding a network where with that card you would be always on regardless of location. And legal too.

Edit: There is a charge associated with that connection isn't there? Take that into consideration as well if there is one.

I think that works backwards from how you think it works.

Yep, you are right. Looked at that too fast. The idea doesn't for him anyway because he doesn't have a parallel port.

PCI adapters to let you use PCMCIA cards in your PC. Whatever you have in your PCI slot, find a USB version of IT instead?
