I would like to put a video camera (webcam, whatever) mounted either under the rear view mirror or just sitting on the dashboard constantly recording. However, I don't want to keep the recorded video most of the time -- just in the event that something happens (i.e. car accident). I'd want the video to be automatically deleted after a short period of time (1 day perhaps) unless I tell it to not delete it. Does anyone know of any software that does this well?

This is what I have in all my police cars. That one above is spendy. But it does come with a remote.

you could fine a cheep vcr and camera and hook them up under $100?
this would need your carputer on all the time if connected to it, you'd need a powerful batterey and u'd be forever replacing or recharging it.. ?

If you are running windows, look at applications designed to do similar streaming video things.. one could probably be adapted to work the same basic way...
