Do you know of a place that sells these?
check this thing out guys, it's a usb controlled volume knob

i don't know if it's been posted before, but i did a search on this forum and no matches came up. it's also a voltage regulator. maybe you could use it with a dc to dc converter such as one of these:

i don't want to use that bulky powermate usb volume knob. i'm looking for something that's comparable to a regular volume knob.

Here is something that would do the same thing. Plus this also is a pushbutton in addition to the rotary knob.

The phidgets come with an ActiveX control that you can use in a program (VB, etc.) to create the interface. It's pretty simple to do.

AFAIK Alps are producing the iDrive unit for BMW. Probably based on something like this, only more advanced with force-feedback.

Using something like phidgets, it should be possible to connect this via USB. Or maybe even directly to the parallel-port?
So many ideas, not enough time...
Here is a guide to making a knob mouse yourself: Link
Just need a smaller knob/wheel I suppose.
I agree, I'd rather a wheel to be much smaller.
