Touchpad and Steering Wheel Controls (Toyota Corolla 2001 european edition)

I would like to ask which is (in you opinion) the best touchpad to use in my carputer... I've only found some ugly white and big ones!!!

Some opinions??

Another question... I've read some threads about using the St.Wheel Controls with the carputer..
How can I achieve this?
These remotes in Corolla are wired.. There is a 3-wire output...
Can this be done??

3 wire output, that means theres not just a simple on-off switching, thats gonna be tricky unless you can find adapters.

I'm using a standard USB numeric touchpad moulded into the door card: http://www.no1knows.com/galleries/in...os&photo_id=22

Works well, next/prev song, volume, vis on/off e.t.c.

The 3 wire is usually a dual analog control. You can hook it up to the joystick port.

With touchpad I meant mouse replacement (like laptops!!!)..

Inside the controller (steering wheel) every switch has it's own wire!!!!

So I can do something with it!!!

But how can I make it co-operate with the PC!!!!!!!

It would be much easier to just use the 3 wires that are already there rather than running wires through the steering wheel column. god_of_cpu has an app that takes the joystick input and maps keyboard shortcuts (in the link above), and I have a winamp plugin for this setup as well and a girder plugin (that doesn't work right).

Oh, and there are USB touchpads that work just like a mouse. cheap better . There are more but that was a quick search.
EDIT: Oops, those are both serial!

I've everything about god_of_cpu's project!!!

They are serial but a serial->ps/2 adaptor is included!!!

The cheap one you said is ugly as the ones I've found... The second one doesn't have any pic!!!

Did you find out how to increase and decrease volume of the PC with a steering wheel control???

I got 2000 Celica now but going to chege it for a 2006 corolla 1.4 TDI and I alredy planning to place carputer in it. this time based on pentium M and aopen mini cube

The 3 wires are propably +12 and two bus signals (Can, 485, i2c...etc) ground is taken at the chassis.

I order to interface it to the computer, it depends to the key's pcb. If there is a complex pcb with ic's on it and complex circuitry, then its propaply some kind of bus and its very difficult to interface it without converter.

I dont think its output is analog, but it is posible.

The easy way is to run seperate cable for each button to the serial and with some software do the rest (like winamp control)

My approach would be: (as an electronics maniac)
Make a simple pcb with a small microcontroller and send via rs232 commands to a VB programm to do the rest. (no extra cables.)
