This is for any people installing car PCs in a Peugeot 306 (there are a couple of us out there with impecable taste)
The steering wheel remote is very simply just 4 microswitches so can be hooked up to your PC in a number of ways (joystick, serial, hacked keyboard matrix) and then used to control your PC via something like girder.
The switch layout on the connector is as follows:

| 3 4 5 . |
+-------------+
1 = Track up
2 = Volume up
3 = track down
4 = Track down
5 = Common
If anyone finds a connector suitable to mate up to one of these (same as the standard radio power and speaker connector then please let me know as i dont want to cur the existing connector off of just shove the wires in.

Peugeot radio harness - Hope that helps. It comes up with lots of UK sites with funky prices and I don't know what a good price is.
I'd go for a cheap gamepad and hook all those to the buttons on it. That would work well with girder.
