Im looking to get a backup camera for my truck and connect it up to my 8 inch kenwood touchscreen. im curious if anyone knows how good this one is? any experience with it? it says its a 120 degree viewing angle, do you think that is enough?

definately not a night cam. make sure you're back up lights work well.
Doesnt have any infared ? ...hmm...I wonder how will you see anything at night. :confused:
same way as YOU do. with suplimental illumination.
the 120 deg. viewing angle isn't the problem here, not to get ito a whole extremely complicated tech session here, but the main determining factor in a camera such as this relies on the actual chip that is used,this camera probably uses a 1/4" ccd which is low quality at best. the 380 lines of resolution spec'd on it is your first clue. you want at least a 1/3 chip with a 3.6mm lense if your looking for something that will be usefull for more than just a novelty.
The big problem is that no one that I have found yet makes a real high quality camera that ALSO reverses the image(mirror image), but there are better ones than this.
A true high quality camera will have a sony 1/3 ccd super HAD chip, with 480 lines res. & be usable down to less than 1 lux. (.02 to be exact) but I have yet to see one with mirror image capabilties.The big difference besides image quality is that you won't see much through a camera like the one you are looking at when it is dark out, even a little darkness(dawn or dusk) & that camera will become grainy & washed out, & at night become useless...
if you are just in for the novelty of it & not really to dependent on it, then this camera will work, just not great...
as far as night vision goes, you will find cheap nightvision cameras that use infrared, but that is just a bandaid solution, you could get the same results with a bright reverse light, again low quality & barely usable, the infrared range is realy short unless it uses plenty of infrared leds which makes it big & ugly, again anything will work, it just matters how good you need this to be...
here is the deal with the light problem.. i have aux back up lights and stock oem back up lights,, there is lots of light back there. the problem i have is that my bed is so high that i cant see over it and i need the camera for that reason..(take a look at my link and you will be able to see what im talking about) its really bad if im backing up a hill,, i cant see a darn thing. from what i can tell this will work for what i need it for,, ill fill you all in when i have a chance to test it

that one is better for sure & one of the better ones you'll find with rev im. but the sad part is that there is WAY better out there, just not rev. im.
that camera only does down to 1 lux, respectable but not good enough if you need to rely on it as say a rear view mirror REPLACEMENT & not just a suppliment.
I eliminated my rear view mirror completely because it was useless when the big dropdown monitor was in use & therefore insisted on the best available camera, which forced me to use a high end camera & a monitor with mirror image capability, the alpine tme-m580. I will eventiually add a multiplexor with reverse image capability so I can see my rear view on one of my other monitors, but for now this fits the bill nicely, as the 580 basically IS my rear view "mirror"
I recently installed kenwoods new touchscreen monitor in a customers car & I know for a fact that mirror image is not selectable through the head, same goes for all the major players in the market, including alpine, you may see some references to being able to flip the images through the head on the web, but they are INCORRECT, misleading because I have read several places that a certain head unit has this ability, but they are incorrectly interprateing(damn spell checker) what they read, just because it says rear view camera input, doesn't mean that the image is reversed for you...
