Thread: How to get MCE Remote to work with XP Home

I followed these steps exactly (on XP Home without any Media Center) and when I plugged in the remote (last step) Windows still started its new hardware wizard and asked for location of driver, etc. Failed.

Pulling my hair out here, have tried 10 times, following 3 alternate sets of instructions (but I thought yours the most promising!)

Any further ideas welcome!

It works in some apps out of the box(just a few buttons - volume, mute, play etc), but you need Girder to get all to buttons to do what you want (FF, pause, etc).

If you get Girder, you need to download the MCE Remote plugin and the HID Plugin.

Hi, tracker, thanks for your response, but it still didn't work. I've verified that copies of irbus.sys, irbus.inf, and irbus.pnf are in the specified places deleted/uninstalled any previous install attempts (marked as a problem, yellow circle & exclamation point). Then I shut down computer, plugged in the MCE remote transceiver, turned the computer back on. I always get the found new hardware dialog, and whether I cancel out of it or point it to c:\windows\inf it always fails.

I guess next I'll try another source for the 3 magic files, and repeat the above process. Perhaps my copies are bad. Mmm, one source included files hid.dll, hidclass.sys, and hidparse.sys along with the irbus.inf and irbus.sys. I have no idea what those are, but maybe this version needs them too.

when windows asks, better yet, shutdown the computer, plug it in, then turn it on... after reboot it will research the inf folder by itself...
