I've been searching for a few hours now, and haven't had any luck finding info on how to combine a webcam with gps. My goal, and it sounds simple, is to use webcam32 (or other software as needed) to snap pics and overlay the current gps coordinates next to the typical date/time stamp. Anyone know of a way to do this? I didn't think it would be this difficult to find info on. I'm sure someone out there has done it before.

You'll need to develop your own app for such a purpose.
There are video components here and there (videocapx for example) that allow connexion to webcam, tvcard.

Should be fairly simple to have an applicatoin capture it and write current position to a file.

Just as easy to capture NMEA data from ANY gps and write current position to file, no need for a Garmin especially.Originally Posted by techguru
It just takes a little more work to extract the position data from all of the other data in the NMEA stream. I was offering a simple solution, not the only solution.Originally Posted by Laidback

If you are going to capture an image every 5 seconds better get a very big hard drive.
But the idea sounds great.

I'm in the middle of doing just this thing for a headless backend. But, I'm doing it in linux since a lot of the scripts/utilities already exist to let this happen. Not really sure what sort of interest there is for the *nix folk but i'd be happy to share if/when I get it done.
