Wondering why you are staying away from the touch screen now?
just because of your bad experience with the lilliput?
I purchased a converted in-dash lilliput touch screen from digitalww about six months ago. Had three good months before the touch screen started not to work. This eventually got worse. I must have installed the drivers and change USB ports about a dozen times. From what I’ve read on this forum, it looks like it could be a cable or touch screen controller problem. At this point, I give up; I don’t want to mess with opening up the screen and try to guess what’s wrong.
Here are my alternatives to a touch screen:
Griffin Powermate
Lite-On wireless keyboard with mouse
Niveus PC Remote w/mouse control
Ortek Wireless Mobile Keypad
These are some examples of what’s available off the shelf and without customization. I’m sure there are other equivalent products. I like to find out from people that don’t use a touch screen but use one of these products. Success stories? Pros and Cons?
Update: I went with the Niveus Remote and the Lite-on keyboard combo. The remote allows me to control most functions and I use the keyboard to enter address for GPS nav. I also switched from Frodoplayer to Centrafuse. For what I need (MP3, GPS, Divx Video and DVD), Centrafuse seems to be a better front end for me.

I use the Gyration wireless keyboard and mouse. It's a lot more expensive than the IR keyboard you listed but it's RF and I buried the receiver in the dash.
Works fine and I change the songs with the multimedia controls on the keyboard. Unfortunately, that means you have to have the keyboard out on the seat next to you. Also, for any type of mouse work I have to pull over to do it.
Touching the screen seems to be the best way but I'm in the same boat as you -the touchscreen I have just doesn't work and just makes the screen dimmer and there's a LOT of glare on it. I gave up on it.
Best option would be if there was some type of voice front end, but there's not.

It took one full day to install just the display. To uninstall to either fix or replace is something I would dread. Everything else is working perfectly, I just need to look for an economical and timely way to control the PC.Originally Posted by Red GTi VR6
