I got the powermate of eBay, never could get it to work. Do you use it alot?
Guess I really don't need it now.
Got the touchscreen and now this Targus. I am however thinking of adding steering wheel controls.

Hey Muldrick, got a couple questions for you about the Targus.

This seems perfect for in car use. And im thinking of going to get one today.

Most importantly How good is the range of the wireless, can i stick the usb thumb stick in my trunk?
I have a mini RF wireless optical mouse and the range on it sucks, it basicly has to be within 2 ft of the reciever or it dosent work, even though the package says 33ft (what a rip off).

How customizeable are the buttons? Do you have to use there drivers/software or can i use something like girder?

    THanks

i use the powermate quite a bit (got mine off ebay too actually)

there is a girder input plugin for the powermate (as well as the IR receiver for my steering wheel controls), so i just use girder to input the devices, then output to frodoplayer, its really nice

i use the normal scroll of the knob to scroll up and down the song list in frodo, and i use the click-and-scroll to scroll the directory/artist/etc list up and down, and i just use the simple click to "play" (the girder input plugin doesnt allow for a long-click)

The range is like 30 or 50 feet? I've got the thumb in my trunk...works fine.
The button aren't customizeable. There's a 3 way "mode" switch: mode 1 works like a regular mouse, mode 2 is for presentations which turns the L and R click buttons to Page up/down. Mode 3 is multimedia, the L and R click buttons are volume up and down.
Additionally on the bottom it's got an "laser" pointer trigger, and has seperate internet explorer and email bottons.
Currently I just use their driver and software...don't know if some guru could get in this thing and modify it, probably so. But it is not designed for this.

Therussman, did you use the downloaded software to install the Powermate? Can you give me some brief instructions on how to install this and maybe program it? I tried the software and can't get it to do *****. It's been awhile since I tried it, but I think the PC recognized the "new Device" but that's it.
    Thanks.

thats cool that the range is what its supposed to be, but sucks the buttons are not configureable, thats a must for me. What mode do you use the device in mostly?

I may just still go and get it just to see how it is in person and return if i dont like it.

    Thanks again.

those things are just usb keyboards... so if you can use a program that does "desired function" when you press page up it could be customizable
