Fingerprint reader as input?

Well, since the fingerprint reader can recognize different fingers, wouldn't it be possible to use each finger for a separate function? For example the middle finger would me "play", then the others would be something like "next", "prev", "stop", etc? I wonder if you could get Girder to work with one of those and whether it would recognize each finger differently instead of performing same function for each of them after you assign the profiles.

hmm nice idea but i think the fingerprint reader is used ONLY to log you into the pc

Im not sure they give you any info to be able to read what its said etc.

Also if i remember it be bout 1sec slow or more depending on the pc to stop or start a song.

I do like the IDEA of using thumb scan to start the PC for the cool effect.

Also if someone else was using the car you could set the start sound of windows as Welcome <name> so it says diff name each time someone scans in also you could have diff frontends or diff skins for each person

I like the idea cause no1 would be able to get the pc logged in

Hehe, I remember reading about software that inputs passwords for you each time you scan your fingerprint. But there's no mention of using different fingers as different "buttons", I guess the fingerprint reader only outputs one thing - whether the finger corresponds to the profile. Although if there is a possibility of creating another profile then maybe it passes more variables after all. Perhaps you could use different fingers for switching between applications, like WinAmp, Routis, backup camera, etc.. Somebody needs to write a plugin for Girder

I read once about a finger scanner that did this:

It scans your finger and assigns a 24 character string based on the geometry of your finger print. Because of how it works, not two fingers generate the smae string, but the same finger generates the same string each time. All the scanner did was input (via USB) just like a keyboard. If you were filling out a form online and you clicked the password field, then scanned your finger, the scanner would "type" your 24-character string. Thus you could logon to whatever you just signed up for without ever knowing your password.

i work for rite aid as a pharmacist and they have FP scanners, its so freakin annoying all day pushing my freaking finger on that POSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

If you can find a driver for the device that work with Girder, it is not much different than the IR sensor thinggy.
But I would prefer when it read my middle finger, it would show/do something else rather than playing a song
