BugByte, did you end up building a cover for the mac mini slot? I thought it was explosed with the slot dvd and metal retractable handle? good job on the powermate installation.
nice install! i like how you hacked up the button to put some kind of a switch for something.Originally Posted by Bugbyte

Hi
Here is one picture of my powermate installation.
looks wicked, great first post leonardo
I got thinking that with the computer just sitting there exposed it was screaming "steal me" so I fashioned a plastic plate over it to make it look like there's no radio. It's directly behind there.Originally Posted by defsquad

Bug,
That should be really tight. I think it is definitely a good idea to give it the OEM look that you did with the smoked plexi.
BTW, have you found that its very hard to change tracks wwith the "push and turn" method using the powermate? I'm asking this as a general question. Basically I guess I haven't gotten used to the right amount of push and turn to use for changing tracks
it ends up pausing and turning the volume up. Is there a correct method for changing tracks (using the press/turn)?

It is difficult to use press and turn. I've set mine to change when I do a long click and hold. I set it for 1/2 second and it works fine. If I make a mistake, all that happens is it mutes the sound.

bugbyte,
thats a great idea! thanks for that suggestion. one more powermate question for you. since we both run pretty much everything off our dc-dc powersupplies, i'm using an opus and you a carnetix.. have you found that the powermate keeps power even when everything else is shut off? for some reason it's holding the 5v rail and keeping it pumping juice. this is definitely a bad thing as it could easily drain the battery. i'm just using an unpowered usb 2.0 hub that is plugged into my via m10k. any thoughts on that?
i had wanted to switch to that carnetix 1900 with the extra 5 and 12v rails for lcd and a usb powered hub but i've got other carpc priorities before that
thanks!

That's a firmware issue with your Opus. Here's a workaround and a full thread discussion on that topic. I installed the mod and it works perfectly!Originally Posted by defsquad

PM me if you're interested in a monitor faceplate for your '99-'04 Golf or Jetta. My Vortex ID is NorthAtlR32 - you can IM me there, too. Go here for more information.
R32,
Thanks so much man! I'll have to look into building this relay, etc. Also, in the meantime, here is the start of my powermate mod in my 2002 maxima se. Basically taking the same idea as some of the other people here and using a different knob (mostly for size reasons). Here is one I snagged from an old pair of klipsch promedia computer speakers. The faceplate for it is made from abs plastic, it needs finer detailed sanding, bondo, more sanding then a couple coats of flat black and it'll be done, but that is to come after i add a master power switch and possibly some indicator lights. for the geek factor.
I may end up scrapping this location and turning my unused cigarette lighter into the powermate and use hte lighter knob itself as the knob for the powermate.
