    Lilliput/Newision/Xenarc LCDs' remote control

    Long shot but is it possible to hack the remote control included with the 7" remote touchscreen LCDs so we can use it as the computer's remote control? I for one think the remote control is such a big waste of feature since i have yet to use it. Any inputs?

    Well, I did it and I don't have to hack anything. This is work for both: Lilliput remote and my new Alpine HU remote. I can use either one of them to control the PC.
    Here is what I did: Build a simple LIRC receiver and run it a long with girder.
    The LCD and HU are mount in the center to the car/dash.
    The IR receiver eye for the PC is mount far left of the steering wheel (read left hand car).
    If I want to control the PC, point the remote at the PC IR sensor with my left hand. With the distance and angle, the operation doesnt' affect the HU/LCD.
    If Control the HU/LCD, point the remote to the HU/LCD with the right hand.
    Mainly I use the HU remote. The LCD remote is in the arm rest compartment most the time. I like the HU remote more cuz the button name match with most music/video player buttons.
    Now you wonder how can I control the PC with both remotes.
    Capture the code for 2 remotes and put in the same action.
    Action = Play
    EventString: Lilliput_Code_for_Play, HU_code_for_Play.

    Done.

    just build yourself a serial IR receiver or buy one (you can get a packard bell receiver which works great for about $10 shipped on ebay) and get an IR program of some sort (many available such as girder, winlirc, etc..). from this point you can use any IR based remote with it.

    probably. probably not. that is an IrDA adapter. it is half-asses supported by some of the ir programs out there. try it for yourself and see.
