    @Tony (and everyone else):
I just came back from the junkyard and picked up a 12V Cigarette Lighter and Socket from a Mitsubishi Eclipse. It looks a bit different, but has the same kind of clear disc around it, and a good place for the backlighting LED.
I'll start working on it in a few hours... Hoping to get it done by the end of Monday.

    Hey Tony,

What did you use to make the three "Soft Buttons?"
The ones with the little white dot in the center.
I noticed they're backlit also... How?

Why not use a Grayhill 60A joystick?

    Hi DJiK

I used 3 * ITT red illuminated tactile switches. I bought them from RS in the UK - heres the link:

    http://rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/rswww/su...o?cacheID=ukie

As you may see from the picture, the holes for the switches are beveled using a triangular grinding stone attachment and polished. The switches are then mounted from underneath.

As a matter of interest, where have you put your PC in your Audi?

Tony, the link above didn't work, but I found them regardless:

    They're a bit pricey though... 3.11 each.
That's roughly $22 for all four... More expensive than a mini keyboard.

I'm done with all 4 buttons, the encoder, and the actual mouse's bones. I just have to solder another connector or two and mount everything in the right place.

Pics will follow shortly. (give me 48 hours)

Oh, my CarPC is currently "mounted" in the trunk next to the subwoofer box.
It's acctually held in place using a bunjee cord; nothing fancy.
The carputer I'm using is a working version of the one from my sig "MiniPC Case."

Eventually I will write a nice digest in the "Show Off Your Project" page...

    Hardware Stage Complete

    Hello People,

I'm done with the hardware stage.
All 4 buttons, the encoder, and the Selector switch are working fine.

    Here's the pic:

Look in Post #39... I've pretty much followed exactly what I orignally had planned.

All of the juicy details will be in the digest once I have it working in the car.
