Hi Wolfebaine,
I agree with you. I think alot more of the setups should focus alot more on voice control & TTS. The whole reason I'm motivated to do the in car setup is to get some useful time out of my lame boring commute everyday.
As you can tell from my post count, I'm just planning my setup, and I want to start with a no screen installation at first, a) to break up the cost b) I would like the challenge to try to make my usage all through audio (I'm not installing GPS at first too :P)
Anywho, I am currently actively working on a voice plugin to RssBandit, an open source RSS reader. You'll be able to speak various commands and have it read to you what new items are in your feed, unread items, etc, and have it read to you what ever new item you wish to recieve. Also I'd like to extend it to Podcasting, so any podcasts/audio feeds can have their audio automatically downloaded, say before hand before your commute or whatever when you're at your house within your WiFi range, and later on listen to whatever podcasts you'd like that you subscribed - all voice commanded. I'll post something up when I get this to a usable state - hopefully soon
As far as Voice Recognition being included in the tablet XP version, well M$'s Speech SDK has it's engine included in it for free.
Ooooh. Something else to play with. Girder has a speech plugin that interacts with SAPI. The functionality of Girder with voice recognition (drool).
I'll do some playing and let you know what I come up with.
Girder's speech plugin is phenomenal! Talk about having complete control via voice. You can do it all with this plugin.
I've only scratched the surface and already i'm multitasking between my On-Digital keyboard/remote, my touchscreen, and speech while doing 75 down the highway!
If anyone's interested, I'll post my GML and XML files as I get them going.
Yeah, i'd be interested to see that . . .
I am also intersted in doing this.. I wasthinking of hooking up a long RCAS cable from the rear of the car to the front to the mic which I could almost disguise in the front driver side pillar but no doubt there would be a lot of playing around until you could get it functional but i think it would be way easier than any control that's not touch screen and cheaper also.
I'd love to see some videos of this all in action.
So girder would be beter than say dragon naturally speaking? I was going to give it a go and see if i could manage to get that to control something. With my wants of voice recignition i want to be able to almost say the band name or letter of the alphabet and have it display all listings eg voice primpt A to show all albums with A then be able to add to playlist or simply play the albums. Seems like a pretty difficult thing to do but i'm sure winamp would have plugins for this also.
In addition wondering if anybody has tryid bluetooth headsets and are they any good for this.. Or alternatively a headset that works wireless via 802.11 network for further distance.
