External volume control, knob, powermate, or something else?

Hi, been away from this site a long time, and quite frankly, I dont have time to sit down and sift through all the posts since being here. And I need to pick a few brains, and Im also sure this post will help others.

I bought a Griffin Powermate over 2 years ago, and its a neat unit. WHEN IT WORKS. As far as I can find out, Griffin STILL has not delt with the problem of it sometimes not starting up upon boot in XP. In fact, is USUALY doesnt start up. I have to reboot 3 times sometimes to get it to go, and since im selling my car soon, it has to be working!

Griffin powermate have sold a product that is not complete, does not deliver as promised, and unless they can fix the problem with a driver update, then they should in my opinion do a bloody product recall. EIther that or just give anyone with the problem, their money back, they simply have not delivered as promised!

Now is anyone else here in the same boat. And has anyone else here found a fix, or a better or similar product elsewhere with which I can fix this damn infernal problem forever! Hopefully from a different company! (Griffin, go to hell for ignoring all my emails!)

I am searching for a device that plugs in USB that I can configure to do volume control, and perhaps assign a keystroke to its "click" upon pushing it down.

    anyone got any other suggestions?
I have to use an external control of volume control, as using the touchscreen or remote is not really practible.

    cheers!
