Two keyboards on the same computer?

Is this possible? My plan is to convert my steeringwheel buttons into a keyboard signal (usb) and still be able to use the standard keyboard on PS2.

Is there a small and simple controller for what I want to do, or do I have to "hack" a small numeric keyboard or something?

Yes, you can have multiple keyboards. Just plug them in and it works.
