    Knobs for ALPS Encoders?

I just got my ALPS encoder and 8 way switch from mouser, and I'm pretty stoked to start work on it.

However, I'm wondering, what sort of knobs are folks using on these?

Most of the stuff available from mouser has an indicator on it, which I really don't need. And most of them are pretty plain looking.

Any suggestions, or pictures of existing applications?

CarPC Progress ~= 97%. Everything is installed, and operational. Still need to tweak and tune, and do some "finish" fabrication.

Ah nice, I'm buying the same one from Mouser. Was checking it out in the catalog a few days ago. Looks perfect for my setup. Scroll, button, left/right, up/down and 45 degrees in between... amazing little thing!

Mine is going to be interfaced with an Atmel ECU which will send serial commands to machine (via a serial port, obviously).

I'm thinking that may be too big. I'd like to maybe put the controller in the dash, just below my screen. Though I'm not sure if there will be enough space for that.

I'll be getting my screen later this week, then I'll know for sure.

I'll be hooking it up using one of these to send HID signals to Girder.

I've also got some micro switches for a few buttons next to it as well. Haven't really figured out how I want it all layed out, but that's the direction I'm heading. :-)

Just got mine in a couple of days ago too. I'll be going the girder + mouse route. Got a cheap 8 button mouse for $10 and I have 5 buttons + scroll working with the girder mouse plugin. Two more buttons are detected with the keyboard plugin. I haven't been able to figure out how to detect the last button but I'll live. The joystick only needs 5 buttons + scroll wheel. Now I need some ideas to make it pretty.

    More info on ALPS Encoder

Would somebody mind providing some links to the ALPS encoder that you're talking about here? >> left/right/up/down, etc ? <<

I went to mousers's site but can't figure out which one you are talking about.

    thanks!
