As stated in the first post, the board should be about 2"x1" in size.

Update: I'm trying to work on a wireless version, which will consist of a USB receiver plugged into the PC, and the keyboard module which can be placed anywhere within its range (RF 2.4GHz, should have good range and connectivity)

Can you post another pic of this thing on a plain background? It's kinda hard to see sitting on that keyboard. Also can you make a bluetooth version?

BLuetooth would be better, but I say that with no knowledge of what the difference would be, but no doubt wireless modules are available off the shelf, maybe BT ones are too, ignoring the FCC and other wireless laws, why they want to impose them on short range (ie 50ft) devices is beyond me, but they have to catch you first, and at 50ft, you'll probably see them coming....

If you do design the receiver etc it opens up a whole new area for items to be implemented into the carpc, as no doubt the receiver could be made to accept signals from more than one transmitter, and if you have them send device codes and function codes then it could be very expandable.

    hey guys,
i've put this project on temporary hold for 2 reasons:

. my work is gettin a little demanding next couple weeks
. i'd really like to make a wireless version for which i have to wait.

A little more info on the wireless, and the reason for the wait:

I'm hoping to make this using a new chip by the same company. the chip is based on the same chip i currently have the keyboard on, but adds on a radio module that talks via SPI. the actual development kit doesnt go into production until Sep 18th, so i might have to wait longer. I *might* be able to get some test chips next week or so, i'll muck around with them a little to see if i can get it working.

My biggest challenge seems to be not on the radio module, 'cuz i have experience with SPI - but on the dongle side. I have no idea what sort of firmware goes on there, or even what hardware i need to program that. so its a little more research before its in full flow.

The wireless protocol itself is very similar to Bluetooth, as in it operates on the same 2.4GHz frequency, but takes lesser power (longer lasting batteries). As an effect of the 'low-power' module, the amount of data you can transfer is limited, this making the Bluetooth protocol very difficult on this. However, the available bandwidth is more than enough for a keyboard application. It will also have a range of > 10m, and doesnt depend on line of sight. you can have the receiver connected to your PC's USB port in the back, and have this keyboard anywhere within the connection range.

Another reason i'm not going Bluetooth is 'cuz then i have to follow a standard protocol that i dont have experience with. With the protocol i'm planning on using, i have advantages such as lesser code, easier implementation, and a very cool feature - "kiss bind". what KISSbinding is that you dont need to press a stupid "connect" button on the dongle. Since the protocol operates on its own proprietry channel, it looks for devices in that range and automatically connects to them.

Hope this makes sense to most of you that are interested. Just a couple more weeks and then I head back to school for ONE LAST SEMESTER! i'll finally get my EE degree and can start working full time. I'll post more as and when I have more info. To be Updated...
