E46 steering wheel controls to carpc...

I've tried to find info on how to interface my steering wheel controls for the OEM head unit to a carpc to control volume and forward/backward station/song with no luck..

Anyone have any info on this?

I asked the same question and still have no answer. there are no "how to's" on this either. If I can figure it out I will put one together.

Search on the term I-BUS or IBUS, both here and on the web. Really, it is quite easy, but it will cost some money.

This past week I did find several ways to do it, including the ibus route.

If anyone here has done this to a bimmer I'd like to hear the route they took, issues they ran into, and how they integrated it with the particular media software they are using.

try doing a search for gork and e46 m3. his car is fully wired and i believe he has full i bus control. he is also very nice and very helpful if you are polite and ask the right questions.

This is the IBUS controller I purchased for my E46.

But I am not POSITIVE on how to install it. I know Zebel installed one in his E46. Maybe he could help us out.

In your trunk, just beside your factory amp is a wire harness wrapped in some kind of foam with 2 connectors in it (assuming you don't have a CD Changer). The 3 pin one is the one you should plug into your iBus controller you bought from reslers. The brown wire on the 3pin plug is the ground, carefully look at your controller to line up the ground (you should have 4pin on your controller).

Then use a program named ibuscomm to send hotkeys to your favorite program based on which button you pressed on your steering wheel.
