    Arrow Slim Drive DVD/CD Connectivity/Mounting

Time to source a slim slot load DVD/CD. I did a search and found some interesting info which leads me to ask more questions.

    1. From what I gather all slot load devices come with a psuedo face plate - correct?

    2. If so, would this face place be strong enough to mount to a flat piece of ABS on a center console?

    3. Do all slim slot load devices utilize an IDE connector?

    4. Is the only way to connect these units is to get a a case for them that contains an IDE to USB interface inside the case? Then run the USB to the PC?
mp3car store - Ultra Slim External Enclosure USB 2.0/FireWire

    5. Do all of these 3 devices from the mp3car store have only IDE interface?
Panasonic Slot Load DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo Drive 24x24x24
Panasonic UJ-845-B Slim Slot load DVD±R/±RW/+RDL/RAM Multi Drive
    Pioneer Slot Load DVR-K05 DVD±R/+R DL/±RW Dual Drive 8X

I do have an available USB and Firewire port on my MB. Suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks,

    John

    1. yes they have face plates
    2. probably not an issue, just make sure its supported from underneath as well
    3. they use 44pin to 40pin ide adapters..
    4. not the only way, but the only way to run it a distance

you can get the 44pin-40pin ide connector, then connect the drive to an available ide cable in your case
    5. they are all ide, but again, you can get adaptors

depends where you want to put it, and how far from the case, more than a couple feet, get the usb/firewire adaptor, within a foot or 2 from the case, just use the 44-40pin adaptor, and use an available ide cable from in the case

    1. don't understand... what do you call psuedo face plate?
    2.answer #1 and I tell you.
3.Nope, the most populars (like the one mention in #5 have a 50 pin conector, from there is up tp you to decide what to use)
4.The enclosure does't contain a IDE connector it have a 50 pin to USB\firewire directly)
5.Wrong again, time to make your homework (it have a 50 pin connector)

My Suggestion is go with the firewire enclosure if you want to know why make a with my username and the word "enclosure"

To correct in case some lone soul find this thread in 2029, it is a JAE50 connector. Basically a tiny IDE connector with power integrated into the connector used for laptops.

He's super... thanks for asking.. /south park...

but yes... it's the JAE50 as 2k1Toaster stated. They are also used on the slim cd/dvd drives like in the slim dell towers. Those actually use a sweet lil adapter that takes the JAE50 from the back of the cd/dvd drive to an IDE connector, so all you have to do is plug it in (and the smaller power connector-small molex like for a floppy drive)

Most adaptors have the floppy power connector on them because IDE connectors don't have power signals.
