This is my one. It is small and gives a good image. It is OK at night but needs some kind of light source. The taillights are usually enough. It came already installed in the car as part of system that includes sat nav, dvd, mp3, etc, so I don't know much about it. I just thought it would give an example of a more stealthy install. It's tucked out of the way, you can't see it unless you kneel down a bit, and it gets a good range of view, though it is a tiny bit fisheyed but still effective.

Anybody have some pics of a magnetic mount or something that doesn't require drilling a hole into your car?

All these pics look nice (well except for that SUV thingamajig that look welded to the top), but has anyone got a nondestructive way of doing things? If I have to I'll buy a spare trunk lid and do it that way. Everything must be reversable!!!

Oh and for those of you with IR, how's the "night vision"?

So Civic03, about the hole in your trunk... Is that hole there forever now? And is it really like a 1" diameter hole? On the inside of the trunk, does it protude out a little so that things can get caught on it and everything?

I have a civic as well, so I appreciate the info. I might get something like this for Christmas.

Has anyone tried mounting the camera and led's inside the car on the dash or parcel tray facing out? Does the angle of the windscreen distort the image/reduce the effectiveness of the inra red led's?

On my Impreza (see dealer image below), i'm looking to have both forward and rear facing cameras. The rear is for reversing, with the front connected just for fun. That way with some software that will keep a rolling buffer of about 2 minutes or so, I can capture any incidents on the road, or simply have it recording if I'm on a car cruise etc.

Now I'm not sure whether I'll mount the front facing camera inside on the dash in a custom housing, or mount it in the one of the many grilles available to me on the front of the car.

As for the rear, I was thinking of just cutting it into the bumper (not ideal on my 4 week old car) plus I don't think the perspective from being mounted on the bumper is ideal to judge distances. I was thinking of maybe mounting it under the rear spoiler looking down on a 45 degree angle. You wouldn't be able to see it under there, unless you were on your knees.

Any ideas or experiences with this type of thing? (P.s. sorry to hijack the thread)

I was thinking that I would put mine under the spoiler too. I too don't want to hack up my pretty car!
