Thread: Lets see those rearview camera mounts.

I had a full size security camera mounted to my tailgate hitch hole. Although it was there to run some video tests with. It was really nice looking I got a lot of looks from people when i had it mounted to the utility box.

So some questions i have for everyone. Are your cameras water proof? That one mounted to the SUV i dont think is made for outdoor use? And there all 12volts right. Anyone have problems with powering strait from battery/car alt. Does the video flicker or is it pretty clean. Does anyone use a regulater to power there cameras, stand alone regulator or from carputer power supply?

How were you looking to do it? Use one of those cameras with the 'u' shaped brackets or a standalone camera in a small angled enclosure?

Took me about 2 days to finally convince myself to pry up the panel for the radio! And then I just took a peek and put it back together! I almost had a heartattack when I had to drill a hole in the firewall to run a 4awg wire from battery to computer!

I was thinking on using a waterproof wideangled coloured ccd with ir camera with a bracket mount of some sort. Then perhaps epoxy some very strong permanent magnets onto the base. The stick it up under the spoiler. Only problem is that, I don't want it to fall off and fly away! I don't want a hole at all, and I don't want to make it look stupid. The only other things I can think of, is put it inside the car on the back flat area, but dark tint, and spoiler would render that pretty useless, or get one of those crappy liscense plate frames with the "El Cheapo" cmos, non ir camera built into it. I was looking on eBay and the ones that I find with the IR are pretty big, and would look a little funny hanging off a spoiler, and the small good ones have no ir. I am looking to completely replace the rearview monitor with a 5-7" lcd that takes the rearview picture always. I don't know though...

My other thought was to actually go to the dealership or a reputable installer and ask them to stick in the trunk somehow with a warranty or something so that if they screw up, then I have someone to go after other than myself.

Maybe if I can find a cheap spare trunk () then I can hack that up!

Alright, more threadjacking:

I got out of my blonde moment, and realized that I didn't have to stick with rearview cameras! duh! So I started looking around at the spy section of eBay, and found the one in the picture. Something like this, would be easier to mount under the spoiler, or on top. Just need to find a wide angle, and small as can be.

They also have 42 ir led models... That's pretty spiffy! The search thickens!

So in answer to your questions:
1.Yes
2 Yes, this one is
3. It says it uses only 50 mA, so that shouldnt be an issue, but I would be looking to splice into the +12v reverse light feed re, so it's only on when you need it
4. We'll soon see. I'll post with results
5. Perhaps a small regulator inline from the reverse light +12v would suffice? A current of 50mA shouldn't cause any trouble with the reverse light should it?

I took a different tact and went inside. The *** of my car is high and there are a lot of blindspots, so I wanted it closer to center to cover the side rear quarters of view. It's mounted to a mini-servo so it can sweep left and right and mounted far enough back so no one will crack their skull on it in an accident, though I'm going to make a little sexy enclosure for it at some point.

Help Needed , I'm searching for a camera on ebay they all have the same spec's but the price is different can someone send me a link to a known good camera that can be seen in the dark that not sp expensive ?

If I could I would. My tint though would render it useless. Yours looks beautiful by the way!

Thanks. I've only got 20 on the back (max legal here), don't know how dark yours is, but those nitemax cameras are pretty damn senstive, almost too sensitive, so if it's not opaque, still might be doable.

I've got 15% or 20% and it is not that dark, but at night, I can see the headlights of cars, but not the cars. That is actually why I want to do this. Not for bling-bling, but for safety. I protected my CarPC, but put myself in danger!

What model is that camera? NiteMax ???? And at night, the IR works through your tint pretty well?
