car alarm remote to turn on computer

ive seen couple 12volt remote switches that will turn on low power things in your car but i dont know the range and the dependablity on it, as well as i dont want so much clutter on my key chain
im purschasing an alarm soon so i wondered instead of using the remote open trunk or some other worthless button on the alarm remote, i can just lead the wire to turn on my computer instead

What's the point of it? Why not just have it turn on with the ignition?

I'm also guilty of such things. But then sometimes I bring back dead threads just for the thrill of the flame.
