Help with a Slot load panasonic

    Hi all,

i have just recieved a Panasonic UJ-815-B off ebay *clicky*. However when i have it in my car pc its not detected on the boot up, then i get an error a minute or so later saying theres no bootable device :/ if i remove it it boots from the HD fine.

i then tried it in two other machines, one laptop and my desktop pc. It was fine in both of these machines!

The main problem is that i can see the drive on the LT and DT but i cant insert any media into it. it goes in until there is about 2cm of the cd out, a few lights flash and it spits it back out!

is this a dud as the guy clearly states it was working? i have contacted him but i have not heard anything back yet.

    Thanks

im not too familiar with laptop drives but i think those use jumpers to set slave/master like the 3.5s. check that the jumpers on the drive arent set to master.

The no bootable device error sounds like you have the DVD drive set as the primary boot device. You can change that in your BIOS, but it doesn't sound like it will solve any problems except that bootup error.

I've been running into all kinds of computability problems with the Panasonic drives.

I'm using a MA external enclosure. It seems that the board inside the enclosure doesn't like the Panasonics for some reason. A cheapo TEAC works fine on it. I've tried 3 different Panasonics, all brand new. Take it directly from not working in the car and slide it into my laptop and it works fine.

I would try another drive if I were you. I know it sucks because you've already bought it and paid for it.

Perhaps you can try it in a laptop or the like?

This makes me wonder how many others have run into compatibility issues with the Panasonic drives.
