wouldnt it just be easier to buy a 20 dollar one?
prolly cheaper in the long run
Good morning all,
A search under this topic seems to show it had been asked a couple of times, but without an answer. I was wondering if you folks had any tips on extending my laptop's touchpad. I have extracted it, but am unsure what connector/cable i should be buying to extend it.
I don't really want to try cutting it and splicing in, since the last time I tried that (with my LCD) i failed miserably.
Pictures attached. It would be really useful to know what the connector is called. I would probably get the bits from www.rswww.com.
Thanks for help,
Sam

Not sure I could get one for £10 here in the UK.... i'd probably have to extend the cable on it anyway![]()
just solder some wires onto it and also to the legs of the receiving connecor.
2 LAN cables shoud do it.
Cheers 0-0-7, that seems a good plan. Unfortunately my soldering skills are absolutely awefull, and i'd prefer to keep the soldering to a minimum.
If anyone's interested, i've found they are Flat Flex Cable(s) (FFC). Currently working on what to do with mine.![]()
www.lumenlab.com sells FCC extensions with the connector that you would need to couple those two cables together. I am not sure if they have the right type cable for you though.
you will need to know the conductor width and gap between them in mm and then you can order from any online electronic component website. digikey should have them also.
Cool thanks, ordering now!
Why would you extend it and risk complications with the laptop?

Why not! Seriously, I can't find any in the UK, and this should be very cheap. Also the laptop couldn't me much more torn apart anyway.
