If it ejects it, my guess would be that it can't read that CD (like it was burned badly or something?). I can't imagine that it is a driver issue.
Hi, I have a slim lite-on slot load dvd drive and I got a usb module for it off of ebay, however it didnt come with drivers. When I try and plug it into my computer sometimes it will show up and sometimes it wont. When it does it wont read cds, it will start to read it and then just eject it. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks!

If it works sometimes it is probably not a driver issue. More likely it isn't getting enough power to be recognized (assuming the disk in it is good). Try your external power pack. Try on one of the PC's main USB ports, not on a hub.

alright thanks, ill check the power
It seems like maybe the drive is bad? I plugged it in again and it was found right away. It shows up in "my computer". The cd began to spin and after about a minute it ejected. I tryed a few cds and the same thing happened. this is the drive im using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106031
Wow do the ratings suck. I've never seen anything on newegg that didn't have at least one "5" rating.

Have you tried the external power pack yet?

Yes, i tried using a 5v it didnt work. I think im going to get a RMA replacement because its over 30 days and then sell the new one on ebay and get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106034
OK. The reason I asked again about the power is that I have seen my similar setup recognize the drive when it is plugged in to some ports but not others on a laptop. On the port that it is recognized, it will sometimes fail when the disk tries to spin up for reading. If I plug in the external power the problem goes away.

Its not getting sufficient power. Thats the reason and dont' even think about it 'cos Im telling you.
How are you powering it? You may have to get an externally powered USB hub and power it through there.
A better option are the Panasonic ones that are sold on mp3car stores', I've used these for almost 2 years.
