    Voice control on the Ipad

Okay, just found out about this must have for in car control:

How to enable voice control on the iPad.

    1.) Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app

    2.) Open K48AP.plist in a
text editor or a plist editor (TIP: we recommend you just use ifile from Cydia to do the editing)

3.) Under the capabilities area add the following key

    <key>voice-control</key>
    <true/>

    4.) Reboot your iPad
    and enjoy Voice Control!

To have more fun with your new voice control:

    1.) Navigate to /System/Library/VoiceServices/PlugIns/Base.vsplugin/English.Iproj

    2.) Open Help.strings

3.) Change anything that says iPod into iPad

4.) Voice Control will now say iPad instead of iPod

    (source)

Of course you have to have SSH enabled.

Very cool but it has it's limitations of course.

You activate the voice command by holding down the home button for a few seconds. I wonder how it's done over bluetooth? It would be great if a voice activated bluetooth mic could be used instead.

Now you can access contacts (but don't try to make a call...lol), or more importantly, ask you ipad to play a song, album, genre, shuffle, etc.

    and more:

    Play artist by...

    Play playlist...

    What song is this?

    Play more songs like this...

This combined with flicktunes (gesture based transport control) maybe all that you need for now.

Any idea if it will work with any of the navigation programs?

I don't have any nav programs on the iPhone/iPad. I think there's a free one I should download and use as a backup.

But I wouldn't think so. Maybe the more advanced ones may have the code to use it.

Sweet! Gotta try this out. Also, you can probably change the activation of voice control using the activator prefs if you've jail broken.

Just tried this. It works!! Ha. Who knew.

I'm using the backgrounder on the home button, so i have to press the home button for like 3-4s to activate it (looong time). I'm trying to use activator now to change this, but it does not seem to work. Do I need to respring? I try rebooting, lock screen, swipe from bottom of the screen to activate voice, but it didn't work.

I'm going to assign something else to backgrounder instead and use home button for now.

This works even if the iPad is in a sleep state (locked). Just press home button and it will turn on a blue screen with some commands. Wait for the beep and speak. Great as far as it goes. No Nav or app control though.

    1. Make sure you type it precisely as shown or you'll get a hang on reboot! I left off the / on true and thought I was going to have to restore my iBrickPad for awhile. Thank goodness for ssh!

    2. Works pretty damn well! However my bt mic is not recognized for input and I couldn't activate it via bt. That Will probably make it difficult for car use.

    3. Everyone thinks this is a super cool hack!

    4. @rippling, what do you set in activator? I can't find anything that looks like voice control.

Glad you could make it work too! Yes, it's a very cool hack and I love it!

There are some apps to correct or add bluetooth support in cydia. Maybe you could check that out. I know Apple is very finicky with BT...

This is my activator setting, ""at lock screen/slide in gesture/from screen bottom to left" (it does not work, or else I don't know what I'm supposed to do!). There are tons of options there (kudos to whoever hacked this), I'm not sure where to go and try next.

Note that the voice control option is the last one that appears under "system actions", right after the "take screenshot" in the bottom of the attached image below.

Awesome! However, when I assigned it to a springboard Icon Spread, it works, but then it takes me to a black screen... at which point I have to lock/unlock to get back.

Also, I'm new at the whole accessing file system stuff, so here's a good youtube that'll get you up and running with voice control:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DluBrfpI8SAI used iFile, which is awesome, let's you edit the file directly on your iPad, access it, change it, etc.

“Call”/“dial” plus name or nickname from address book. May need to
add phone number type, such as “home”, “work”, “mobile”. “Call John
    Smith Mobile”.
