Yeah, I suppose I'll end up going that route. Just to throw it out there though: it works great on XP... you just have to logoff the connection before pulling the iphone plug. thanks Kimota

Thanks for the info (both of you).

As soon as I get my Front End issues worked out, I'll probably get an iphone and try this out.

How much is involved in activating the wifi tether? With USB I have to run some kind of one line cmd script and a program called Tunnelier (I think) and now I'm thinking, I need a away for this to run automatically everytime the iPhone is detected... Any thoughts?
    booksix,

Have you made any progress on this? I have SW dev skills but unfortunately not enough to help fix the blue-screen problem... iPhone users world-wide will bow at your feet if you can figure out a way to make this work seemlessly!

On a related note, you mentioned that you are using bluetooth to talk... are you connecting directly to your iphone with a BT headset or have you been able to integrate the phone with your PC somehow?

    Thanks!

Hi, I also have an iphone that i tether to my carPC. I have installed a wireless access point in my car and the carpc is hard wired to this. The access point is running dd-wrt on it and is currently bridged to my home network. It currently work perfectly with the iphone and with dd-wrt it open's up the possibility of automitic scripting on the access point itself, along with wol features and the carpc is hardwired. I'm currently working on a small script for dd-wrt that will automatically bridge to eircom(Irish ppl :P) access point's on the fly as I drive.

PS: I have an autoit script for the iphone that might be useful to you too. I also have my iphone tethered to my carPC and wanted to be able to view my text messages on the carPC so I wrote a small script that connects via ssh to the iphone and reads the text messages from the phone. It's far from perfect but it does work well. I'm planning on integrating it with Roadrunner later on. I'll post it up later on today after work :P.

It's kind of funny that every time someone posts about integrating the iPhone into their CarPC setup they seem to disappear never to be heard of again. Maybe Apple is "eliminating" potential threats to their absurdly strong grip on the iPhone platform???

d_mc_a: wow... thanks for posting about this!
I'm willing to risk it and would love to see the script you made to get SMS messages off of your iPhone. Please share it when you can.

Hi, yea, I know what you mean about people disappearing after presenting wild ideas. I've probably committed that crime myself a few times. Generally, when I write something for my CarPC that I find useful, I write it because I need it myself and not because I see people want it. Because of this, My "concoctions" are generally "thrown together" in a user unfriendly fashion and are only tested by myself in my car. When I find a problem, I recognise it, but don't have time to fix it there and then, so I generally ignore the problem for a while until I can get around to it. In my opinion, someone posting a script that doesn't work, and not fixing it would be almost as bad as making wild promises. I wouldn't consider myself a fantastic programmer, but I'll post up what I have done later on today.

I'm next in line for iphone tethering. My point, if i pay for internet then i use how i like it for my own needs. Is like having a cable modem going direct to your pc but you hve more then one that needs the Net.

You can now tether iPhone with Pdanet using a USB connection. You have to download the desktop software from:

I have been patiently waiting for this for almost 2 months now... what happened to "Posting it later today""?

I would love to get the source code of the AutoIt script if you don't mind. I would like to see the commands and such you are using in AutoIt to send the SSH info to the phone.
