Iphone tethering

I just wanted to share my experience with tethering my iphone. I use an app called netshare to create a SOCKS proxy that my computer connects to. This app was released for a short time and is no longer available from the app store. It has some issues that will never be resolved because apple does not support it any longer.

Another option is to jailbreak your iphone. With a jailbroken iphone there are multiple ways to tether. One of the most popular ways I have heard of is with pdanet. It seems like a great app, but you must jailbreak to use it. If you want to jailbreak, there is tons of info available if you google it.

There is a rumor that apple is going to bring legit tethering, but it might cost more.

Does anyone have any other ways to tether?

has anyone found a way to tether without jailbreaking? ive had my phone crash while jailbroken then had to update and start over, but with the new updates it automatically undid the jailbreaking. any info would be much appreciated

im interested in this too. apparently Apple has broken all the current Non-jailbreak way with the new 3.1.3 load like I have.

You gotta wait for the devTeam to come up with a jailbreak for it. They do it after the fact so Apple has a harder time keeping up.

Why not just jailbreak? I have had the first iPhone since week 2 and a 3GS since release and been jail broken on both since. Never had an issue and if you do just restore it. Unlocking is another story but not relevant here. My first gen was a little slower after jailbreak but the 3GS is the same. And the first gen is no slower now since jail breaking has become more mature.

I started trying to jailbreak mine. No luck yet. Mine is 3.1.3 with boot rom 359.3.
im stuck.

I did jailbreak my 3G 3.1.3. Used redsnow, load a 3.1.2 image when redsnow asks for breaking only (You'll still going to be 3.1.3 though, don`t ask).

I have to use myWI (paid app) for tethering, because pdanet won`t work with 3.1.3.

Very happy so far. I had done this way before, the phone got too slow. Now it actually feels much faster?! Don't ask (again, don't know why).

do you use your phone with tethering often? or has at&t said anything about overusage, i wanted to tether my phone but i dont want them to charge me tons if it is discovered, i heard that they disconnect if they find out, so i thought i would ask, thanks!
