Thread: [Video] - options for video output on iPhone/iPod touch

I have done something similar to your video. However I am just using Veency on the iphone and jolly'sfastVNC on my mini. It eliminates the need for screensplitr and the need to open a web browser. All you have to do is be on the same network. I have an applescript to create a adhoc network and use it in conjunction with a program called on wake. This way every time the mini starts up or wakes from sleep I already have an adhoc network created.

The next step was writing an applescript to make the connection with jolly'sfastvnc. I simply run the applescript as an app and it makes the connection, minimizes unused windows of jolly's and then I have one small window on my screen showing my iphone screen. Then I can just control the iphone from the touchscreen. One thing you are going to want to have is sbsettings or bossprefs to toggle autolock, because if the iphone goes to sleep the connection is lost.

On a side note, another useful application is snatch for the iphone. It gives you a trackpad and keyboard you can use to control the mini. Also, I've found that screensplitrs video quality is much better if tvout is installed as well. I don't use tvout but for some reason screensplitr is better with it.

Just something I've been thinking about for a few days to eliminate the lag on the display, if using Veency & Screensplitr, will the video output(from the dock) still work?

That way a barebones pc (like an eee pc) could interact with a in-dash touchscreen via Veency, while still maintaining the fast video display because its not going over wireless.

Until the possibility of wifi touchscreens arise, this might be an interim solution.

This will not work...output through the cable is either component or composite so you have to switch to that input on your screen. Unless you can figure out how to make the touchscreen work while in video mode(mine doesn't), and then somehow figure out how to make the non visible vnc screen overlay perfectly with the video output through component or composite.

I was under the impression lilliputs touchscreen remained active, even when the monitor is turned off?
I guess it depends on how the touchscreen is controlled by the monitor, or even whether you are using a add on touch screen mat or not.

I've been down a similar path too recently. I didn't want to jailbreak, but rather just use normal ipod, and also be able to control it remotely.
However, this is not possible using the ipod video cable, because it terminates the serial lines (which are needed to have control via buttons, etc).
Inside the video cable, there is a chip. It does authentication/handshake (there is some encryption).
The trick (I think) is to have a serial proxy-type functionality, which can be used to pass messages from the ipod to the authentication chip and vice-versa, but also to break this and allow you to 'inject' some messages when needed. These could come from a microcontroller. I made some progress like that, but have currently put video on hold (more interested in remote control currently).
