PDA net was cool until benm made this really cool plug and play tether config update. It turns on apple tethering on your phone and is super easy to use.

Go to help.benm.at on your iphone scroll down to "tethering & internet settings" select "Mobileconfigs download >" find your carrier select install and enjoy your internet tethering via bluetooth or USB.
thats what I used for a while but in the 3.1 OS you can't unless jailbroken. If jailbroken you can use My-Wi. That works best in my opinion because you have 3 connection options: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB
Just wanted to update you guys, Tethering works on 3.1.2, jailbroken. Not sure if it would work without a jailbreak, but I followed Ben's guide. I think it's better than PDANet or MyWi since it's the iPhone's "native" tethering, and it's free.
