Thread: Remote touchscreen control of iPhone via serial port - Need hardware help!

No. I never got a solution to this problem. It is far more likely to be solved on the Android phone. There are 'terminal' solutions on the android that allow the phone to be controlled by the touchscreen in certain cars.

I have moved on to an iPad install in my car.

hey guys, hate to dig up an old thread but i've been searching a way to control my iphone using an external touch screen monitor. i found this thread and thought i'd leave a post.

as it happens i've doing a bit of r'n'd myself and have managed to solve this problem (well at least i've gotten further than most people!)

at the moment i am at preliminary stages and i have only got it working on my desk but so far my solution lets me to control my iphone using an external touch screen monitor. the next stage is to set it up in my car and eventually dock my iphone and control my iphone from my dash

Great work! How does it exactly work? Can u use apps in landscape?

@misterromin, can you explain how you got it to work?

@Simon: That is Fantastic. The demo video looks great, what did you have to do to get this to work. the video and sound you'll obviously get just from the belkin av cables, but how did you bring in the touchscreen control output back into the iphone and get it working?

I would love too know any other details. what other connections did you need to hook up? did you have to build an app in for iPhone that emulates user input based on tty serial output from the touch screen? if so did you need a microcontroller to interpret and translate the logic?


I would love to know more details on how you got this to work and if you have any circuit diagams, or program code. If you plan on developing this product for distribution/resale I would love to be an early adopter/tester for you.

P.S he is not using bluetooth else the bluetooth icon would of been displayed on the top right of the screen

edit: it looks like some icon does appear near the top right. you can see when he first presses the contact icon and nothing happens. Soon after an icon does appear in the top right suggesting it might be bluetooth but the icon looks different to a standand bluetooth icon. This probably suggests that he has got some custom app running.

Now if it can be done without jailbreaking your iPhone. That's the real question.
