reverse iphone control
Hi guys,
I stumbled across this site while looking for a little bit of information about external displays for iPhones. I found a few threads talking about carputer setups and trying to simplify them down to be an iphone hooked to a screen without the use of a carputer. While this is somewhat along the lines of what I'm trying to accomplish it's still working in a different direction.
Here's what I want to be able to do:
--Display video from my iphone externally onto a touchscreen display --(already know how to accomplish this)
--Use said display to control the iphone
All of the threads I have found thus far are more concerned with eliminating the need to have a carputer in line with this setup, which is the opposite of what I need. I plan on installing a carputer setup that can be used to handle driving the touchscreen display's touch output. The question I am having a hard time grasping is how to get the computer to drive the iPhone.
This is a windows 7 box that I will be running, however (as this box is not yet built) I can build the box to run Mac OS if necessary. My brother and I have already fully built and installed a similar (but less powerful) setup in his car and I love the functionality of it. I plan on utilizing the carputer for other things than the basic function of offering a graphical interface for music, which means that the carputer setup is going in regardless of whether or not I can get iPhone functionality from my display. The reason I want iPhone functionality is I know that with the setup I am building I can get that functionality without spending very much extra money, and I love the interface the iPhone offers out of the box for music control.
What I need to know is the following:
--What kind of cable would I need to drive the iPhone externally?
--Could I use a bluetooth setup instead? And if so, what software would I need on the iPhone to do so?
--Lastly, can this be accomplished on a windows box?
Any help is greatly appreciated! :thumb:

I do like the idea of running veency, as it is exactly what I need, however it seems extremely laggy through the wifi network and I almost always have my iphone's wifi turned off because where I live 3g speeds are much faster than the wifi connection speeds...it also has the downside of being run inside of a web browser when I would prefer running it full screen on my screen in the car:

(I know that the iphone would have to be tilted sideways to fit full screen, which isn't ideal but it still works)

As far as I know, that's the only way to do it. You could use a wireless controller to operate the iPhone, but I don't think that's exactly what you're after.
There's gotta be a browser out there that runs full screen for you.
The other option is to use one of the iPhone style skins for Road Runner and just forget using the iPhone.

I figured as much, I've been looking throughout most of the day today and can't seem to turn up anything...oh well, I'll stick with centrafuse as that's what my brother and I used in his car and I rather like it...most of the reason I wanted to be able to hook up my iphone was for better ipod integration than comes with that setup as I keep my itunes very well organized and most of it's still DRM encrypted so it's not so easy to move it around >.<
