um...no actually not at all. Yes show cars have seen the iPad installs as the new trendy thing to do (cause anything with an apple logo is instantly cool apparently)....but people who want useful systems not so much. Few if any installs use an ipod touch, iphone or anything else with such a small screen because its absolutely useless when moving. iPads are at least usable but i think a good portion of users end up ripping them out after a few weeks when they realize how limited they are.

To each is own... and you're not speaking for everyone, right?!?!

In case anyone else who is interested in using a iPhone as their car computer, I have a Eclipse AVN2210P (double din) installed in my car right now, I can play videos while I'm dring and I don't have any issues with the small touch screen. My iPhone screen is bigger then sceen that's on the AVN2210p. So the hands free laws and UI issues shouldn't be that big of a deal as people are making it out to be.

Count me in the minority. I love my iPad install. It works better, requires almost no configuration and is brighter and more responsive than any car PC install I've ever had. I love it.

i disagree with this..(i don't own a ipad--they cost too much for as little as i would use it)

i think that apple does a great job with their screens-- the ipad, and iphone both have transflective, and capacitive touch-- the only real downfall in-car is the mirror-like capacitive display..

i think that the ipad, with it's larger screen, and the options for larger icons on the springboard allows for it to be easier to use in car-- the only problem is the default song browser having smaller buttons to switch songs. though ripplinghurst has posted some threads on apps that get around the small icons for easier use in-car..

there is the developer that was going to be making a fe for ipad/iphone, but the recent lack of posting updates and screenshots is unpromising..


blackflux: i can understand that some people want am/fm, but even if i move to a ipod/pad/phone install, i am pretty happy without a headunit.. for me, it just added more complexity-- when i had a hu-with am/fm, cd, and i really just ended up listening to my ipod anyways...

though i just wonder if the o-audio solution is too much integration-- if you forget your iphone, now you can't even listen to am/fm on that unit, but if you use a current headunit, you still have some functionality without your iphone.. albeit less functionality, and possibly worse phone integration, but it you can still listen to the radio without your iphone..

PS: i had to do some work in Rensselaer, Indiana a couple of days ago, so i have plenty of Orville Redenbacher popcorn on hand ;)

@Bugbyte, how often do you leave your iPad in your car? The reason why I ask is because Apple say you shouldn't leave their products in the car. I think it has something to do with the battery.

@soundman98, yeah you're right if their smart they would allow you to use the O'Car head unit without a iPhone/iPod. You can take out the Tom Tom nav unit on my AVN2210P, but still use the AM/FM radio. I think the only thing you can't do is use a USB drive and the iPod features.

Did you end up buying one of these?
