I have a 17" widescreen laptop that the video card died on. The resolution is 1680x1050, and I was thinking of gutting the computer for the inverter, screen, and backlight. I know there is a way to adapt it to work with standard VGA, I believe there is an adapter. However, I can't find anyone with an adapter.
Does anyone have experience working with raw panels?

Amazing. I asked if I could do this a little bit ago and was told no and flamed for asking a question that's been asked before. Now here it is again and it's suddenly possible.
Im running a 15.4 widescreen Toshiba laptop panel. Its got vga input via an after market LVDS controller. Ive linked to an ebay ad that will probably do the job, but it may not cover widescreens. If that fails try asking motorcity, they will help you find one.

Link to thread in question? I see a post from you asking where to get the controller panels, and a thread where you ask and are told to search. The first thread you seem to have found a place but with a minimum order of 100, the second thread you were linked to a search (which has now expired). Just because it is expensive does not make it impossible.

I don't see anyone saying it isn't possible.
