Jumping Thinkpad R50 power button, no contacts to solder, Thinkpad Owners HELP!!

I just got a thinkpad R50 to use in the car and realized that the power button is part of the keyboard. I popped off the button and its just a standard keyboard style contact underneath without two contacts that I can see to solder. It works on pressure only. I cant really see where to trace the two wires to so I can bridge them. I ran a search and saw some similar posts but no solution. Has anyone been able to solve this??

yeah...its pretty simple...the docking stations down to the port replicators have power buttons you can use. You can also use the serial (DB9) to do a remote on. just has to send a ulse. its pretty well explained in some remote start SDCs

i dont think my computer has a serial port....plus i wanted to actually have the real power button wired because sometimes the psu doesnt behave exactly like you want, or the computer freezes, or anything like that.

ok i purchased a port replicator today for 16 shipped. hopefully it gets the job done. im crossing my fingers that i dont run into any problems with the vga out and stuff (i read some threads where people had trouble) but ill have it hooked directly into the laptop vga out, not the port replicator's. does the port replicator have its own video card and stuff?
