Extend Your Laptop Optical drive Cable

I am not doing this as an advertisement, more an announcement, but I have been working for the last 6 months to achieve a way to remote mount the DVD drive from my tablet into my OEM radio's CD slot. I haven't done the install yet yet, but the only insurmountable hurdle has finally been overcome.

The connector on the back of most laptop optical drives is called a JAE50 connector. This connector has never had an extension cable made for it until now.

Paul Jennis finally got a manufacturer up to speed on what we wanted and has created two versions of JAE50 extension cables (12 & 24 inches) for those like me who want to move the optical drive away from the laptop. We now have more options available to us for relocating the drive. He has a website advertising this product at http://paul.thejennis.com.

Very nice, you dont know how long I have been trying to figure out how to extend it. I still have the problem of the PC in the trunk and the DVD ant the front. needs more than 24 inches. something wireless would bee cool.. Hey did you have any interference issues?

Like I said above, I've tested it functionally, but have yet to install it in the car. I don't expect interference generated by the Optical Drive's operation because most of my components are shielded; as for the introduction of noise into the optical drives output, I don't know yet. I guess I could break down one of my cars and test it, but most of what I'm going to be using it for is digital not analog so I'm not that concerned.

just use the adapter and extend it using a usb cable. I might give this a try.

I've used USB and PCMCIA for CDs, but for DVDs and DVD burning there's no better interface than the JAE connector that's tied directly to the IDE controller (plenty of bandwidth compared with PCMCIA or competing with 7 other USB devices and two USB Audio streams). I only need to move my optical drive 16 inches and the JAE connector is sitting there not doing anything.
