my guess is that you have a short from cutting the wires - I'd remove the keyboard and palm rest then take the LCD VGA connector off the mother board.
Hey, I have an m600 with a non working screen.. The vga output still works so I would like to connect it to another screen, but want the laptops LCD Screen off completely.
Any ways, while removing the screen I cut the the cable which connects screen/lid to laptop base and the vga no longer works.
This is the cut cable

So how would I go about running the laptop off the separate vga connector, but removing the lcd completely and have it all work.
Thanks.

Glad it works.
When you removed the screen did you notice if there was an antenna in the lid? I know lots of laptops have it there, but not sure if Dell did it on these models. I have an 8600, but it's the same design (mom has a 600m - looks identical).
