HP mini 1035nr? Thoughts...

so I've been working on a carpc project for a while now and I ran across this guy in circuit city

HP mini 1035nr
1.6ghz pentium atom
1gb ram
60gb HDD 4200 rpm
2 USB

Now he bad thing is there is no VGA out on the of but I talked to an hp agent and they told me they are working on a VGA adapter cable and a docking station.

I was planning on running a front end with the pc and extremal hd to put music videos etc.

Want to know what you guys think of it. Good for carputer or is it better to get a carputer com like mobile computer solutions or the store here.

wouldnt pay more than $300 for it. If it is under $300 with their doomsday business deals, then might as well, but relying on HP's "working on it" to get a working carpc rather than just a better working carpc, seems like a headache waiting to happen. That and you cant return it if you dont want to use it or if something is wrong.

Yeah I checked it's about 450 brand new and 400 at circuit city with thw sale.
As for HP the VGA out cable was supposed to be out last month so them working on it could still be a while. I'm hoping the cable comes out and circuit city dips their prices even more on the notebook.

the good thing I was looking at is that it had a battery so I would probably be able for the laptop to start during engine cranks.

The other thing too is that you can expand the memory to 2gb of ram which is pretty cheap these days.

I also forgot for those who haven't seen this notebook it's only about 10" so it could easily fit in most glve boxes or other small places in your car.

You can build an itx atom PC for less money and put it in the glovebox too.

But $50 discount really isnt that great. I wonder why they are going out of business?

Are you sure the HP netbook accepts more than 1GB of RAM? I hope you are right, but I just very briefly looked at the specs at hp.com, and it appears 1GB may be the max.

It's a very nice unit, though, and if I were in the market for a new laptop I would also seriously consider buying one. I've seen a 10" netbook by HP in a local store, I'm not sure if it was this model, or if HP has more than one 10" model, but I did like what I saw.

Hey Marvin saw you where looking at this netbook to and after looking a little harder I found an even better one with more stuff and cheaper.

The probelm I had with this mini is that HP has no idea when they will be coming out with a VGA out cable or docking station. So unless you plan on waiting for HP to get their act together this netbook wont do without a vga out for a carputer.

I lokked around and ended up getting a Asus 1000H from my local Best Buy. Thing is the Asus has the...

-1.6ghz atom
-160GB HDD (better than the mini's 60GB).
- 3USB (Mini only 2)
-VGA out ( Mini needs cable or docking station not yet available.)
-Wireless N (Mini only G and B)
-$350 w/tax (Mini is 400 at circuit sity with 10% discount)

Asus even has an overclock button built right on the book to change the proccessor from 1.6 to 1.8.

Down side is the touch pad for mouse is very touchy but since your going to be using a touch screen this wont really matter.

Oh yeah I checked the specks and you can go up to 2GB buts that's the max on the Atom proccessor at least this one.

I have a 2GB ram chip in my other laptop I'm going to take it out and put it in the Asus just to check and I will get back to you with the results.

Its my opinion that this Asus is way better than the HP 1035rn. More ports, space, and cheaper. Sorry HP you loss.
