Why must the laptop be vertical?
And it will never be shock-proof.
Your best bet is to attach the laptop securely to the chassis or body somehow and let the vehicle's suspension do its job. Admittedly, that is easier said than done.
hi
I have a laptop carpc in a '99 e46 bmw
I've managed to put everythng in place but now I would like to make it look decent
what do you propose, how should I install the laptop in the trunk?
a few musts:
-it has to be set verticaly
-it has to be shock proof
-it has to be as much OEM like as possible
tnx![]()

I would like it verticaly so the hdd would receive less shocks...
now, I have a temporary "box" for the laptop, it is set verticaly and it has a sponge at the bottom for shock absorption...
now I would like to make something nice![]()

The HDD is going to receive shocks regardless of the orientatio it is mounted.
The debate is out as to whether vertical or horizontal mounting is better than the other. But whatever.
Lose the sponge, or any other mechanism you think will reduce shock loads. They will do more harm than good.

Consider using an SSD (solid state drive) instead of a "mechanical" hard drive. SSDs are still more expensive, but they are not prone to failure due to vibration.
SSD is waaay too expensive...
I don't understand how will he sponge beneath the laptop do more harm than good
but whatever....
back to topic
I was asking for an idea how to fabricate something, integrate the laptop in to the trunk...
some pics maybe?
