Dual Screen Laptop
So I just got a nice new toy in the mail today, The Onkyo DX1007A5. It is basically a dual screen 10" netbook with 2 GB ram and 320GB HD. I only opened it up, so I don't kno wmuch about the usage yet.
I had to import this thing from Japan so everything in the box is a little hard for me to read.
I think this thing has some potential for a very unique Carputer, but perhaps that is jsut my wishful thinking.
Anyways on to the pics!!
That's nice! How much do these cost?

Honestly, I don't see this being more than a novelty item. It has a "wow" factor with he dual screens, enhanced by the slick integration of them.
Durability could be an issue, as well.
Ok I bought this one from www.geekstuff4u.com after getting all the options and a english OS install it was about 1300 imported, although if you can manage the japanese website for onkyo it is only about 1000.
And you are right this is a novelty item that I was hoping would have some real value when working on the road.
After playing with it for one night I realize that it get very warm, the screens are super bright and easy to see, and also there are way to many characters on the keyboard. Makes it almost impossible to type like normal.
Oooo. That's overpriced! About the keys, I think Japanese keyboards have 106 keys compared to 102 keys.
Why couldn't you just use a regular netbook with a portable 7" LCD usb monitor like the MIMO 710-S. That is what I am doing. The LCD monitor just folds up. It is like $149 for the monitor.
I'm not saying that I couldn't, I just choose not to. I do quite a bit of travelling and spend way to much time in planes and airports. If I have a all in one with 2 screens it is that much less stuff for me to carry onto the plane(I try to never check my bags). Since space is the issue if I had to carry an extra screen and cable that is space I could use for a weeks worth of socks....

I regularly use laptops imported from Japan/Taiwan/Singapore/Mainland China (sold in the local markets, and brought back) and they are always better looking than their USDM market. Personally I would use the gscreen (I think that is what it is), that has 2 15.4" screens. I do all my work on my laptop including all programming and hardware design. Sometimes I use a second screen plugged in but then I am immobilized. I might as well use my high powered server then. With a dual screen or that gigantic HP thing, I could see more work getting done in a somewhat mobile environment, meaning the couch and not on the airplane.
