IBM THINKPAD T43 Remote Power Switch
Here is how to mod your IBM T43 Keyboard so that you have remote power off...
In trying to make the laptop even better, I've made some changes. Now I've totally ripped out the KeyBoard Circuit and directly soldered to the MB Header. In addition, I've removed the Modem harness, and soldered directly from the Keyboard Header to the Modem Socket. This allows for a simpler On/Off connection. See Photos
You must remove the modem harness if you plan on using the modem socket to connect the switch to... which is much cleaner than wires hanging out. This also only allows for On/Off. You must make sure your power management console allows for shutdown when power button is pressed. Have fun!
Here are the updated Photos first...
I hacked apart my T43 keyboard, but before I did that, I installed VNC server as well as setup a static IP address so that I can use my IPhone to sill do what I need to (or my REAL laptop).
First I ripped apart my keyboard to find the traces to the ON/OFF switch, simple, followed the ribbon cable to the pins. Verified with an continuity tester (VOM) and found the pins that were used. Soldered 2 wires to it and done. Video Included at the end.... here are the pics
Hope this saves just 1 keyboard from the fate mine had... the T61 was a sample pic of what it looked like before I started.
The YouTube video to prove it works.
