Thread: IBM THINKPAD T43 Remote Power Switch

Hey dude, I have a ThinkPad T60 that i'm trying to use and destroyed 4 keyboards today . I found the last two pins on the ribbon cable are for the power button and soldering just doesnt work for me. Are there headers on the board itself other than the keyboard plug to solder the cable to? Thanks in advance

Well I've ripped this down to the bare minimum necessary to run. I'm still using the Cardbus for my network card... that will get yanked as well as the Cardbus adapter as soon as my USB 11g/n dongle comes in. Also for the hard drive... I'm considering a USB drive, but with that the camera, GPS, and Wifi dongle... may be a bit of a stretch. If that fails, will get a 2" 2.5M - 2.5F adapter ribbon to flip the drive over on the same footprint... Note power switch is soldered to the Modem socket, and VNC is running to be able to control the machine at this point. Looking for a VERY SLIM touch screen that I can embed in the middle flip-up cover on my Sonata.. that would be cool!

I think your stuck soldering... I can't find any place on the MB that allows for a power switch other than on the header. Soldering is simple and cheap even if you don't have an iron... RS has a small kit that is perfect, and you really can't f- it up by soldering to the ribbon instead of the MB. Going to the MB is a bit tougher and you'll need a fine point on the iron as well as a good eye plus thin gauge wire pre tinned to make the connection quick and pain-LESS!

I have installed a T60 as well. Mine has no screen, just the base and keyboard. I also ruined a few keyboards and found out that soldering was impossible for me.

I removed the top black panel off the keyboard and removed the on/off button. I then used 2 thin gauge wires and fixed them the the printed curcuit under the button by using conductive silver paint from here.

I then hot glued the whole button area to keep it stable. Been in the car for 9mths now and still working fine. :-)

I got a t60, took apart kebyaord, followed tracks to make sure where they went and found out they go to pin 0 and pin 1 on the ribbon connector(THE PART that connects to membrane)

Plug in it. put power in, touch the two wires and nothing.

Please explain if you know what is the problem?
and aslo how come u soldered under the laptop (i would assuome on the dock connector) and also did the keyboard ribbon mod?

if you have the pinouts for the laptop dock connector please let me know.
