Also part of that is having the OS be aware that it's running on the charger so it doesn't go to sleep. IDK if android is smart enough to do that.
Yeah but even if the cig lighter doesn't power off with the car that's a pretty simple problem to fix with a single relay. I hear your point about runing down the car battery if the tablet continues to charge, but as mentioned a simple relay will take that problem away. The tablet battery should be able to keep it sleeping until the next drive.

My cig lighter does not turn off immediately either, but it turns off eventually to protect the battery. I'd say it stays on for at least 30min, maybe much more but not less. The iPad, the computer, even a fridge can stay on for quite a while, but the car electronics takes care of it.

    Another convert!

Hopefully, it will also autoconnect with your USB devices, too. Took me a long time to get USB to sync and even now it takes as long as booting from standby.

A for-car FE app should be able to detect a power state change and sleep the device and I'm sure the same could be done for any type of tablet -but that requires FE software. Which doesn't exist yet.
I'm sure someone will come up with something similar to Powermon for you guys one day. There are also a couple programs out there for the PC laptop that don't require Front-end support, not to mention its part of the OS in windows for most laptops/tablet/etc.

Thanks for the link... I found this interesting. Since the Archos 5 is internet ready and has GPS, it could be used as a Car PC killer as well. Android 2.2 has been released for it and with a few tweaks you can get the Android Market and use this Car Home app as well.

I still haven't found a free navigation software better than Google Maps with Navigation, only it uses your phone's 3G/EDGE connection to get info on places, but you can also pair it with your Android smartphone to get the internet.

I love that. I wonder if they're going to make it a tablet version of this for the Galaxy tab...

Very cool automatic launch with BT pairing! Never thought of that. Also when docking. Very clever.

Likely, its in the market so if you get the Galaxy Tab and install Car Home you should be good to go.

How you going to attach it to your audio system tho?

Btw for audio just buy an external amp wire the car speakers to the output side... take the headphone jack and plug in a rca to headphones jack cable and take that cable to the input side of the amp... wire in an equalizer in series to act as ur volume control... i did this to the 06 mustang I spoke of earlier and everything works like a charm
