Applications that are written specifically for it by Microsoft and third party developers using Microsoft tools, most available from the Microsoft app store, this includes a surface RT version of MS office. That's why I'm not including it here or testing it.

The reason I'm using a Surface Pro is to use the existing code and applications that I have written for the x86 platform - the normal Windows 64 bit OS.

Correct, the Pro is an x86 tablet, the RT is an ARM based tablet. Anything you can run on a PC you can run on a Pro.

It is an arm based processor similar to the majority of tablets and smart phones out there. An ARM is a 32bit processor that is NOT compatible with the x86. Generally the majority of small embedded systems out there are using either Atom (Which IS x86 compatible) or Arm.

A fairly large number of WinCE desktop apps have been ported to run on the WinRT Desktop. Despite all the hoopla, at a certain level, WinRT is WinCE. Which means that if I ever get my hands on one, I might take a shot at porting the WinCE version of Centrafuse over and seeing if it will run on the WinRT Desktop.

    Why? Because it's there....

I had a chance to remove the existing dash I made that houses an 8" WS LCD and various system and HVAC controls. I gave the S-pro a try for fitment. It will almost fit landscape but in reality, portrait mode will allow a really easy and better looking fitment. My GPS apps scale and look really good in portrait mode. This mode allows me to have HVAC climate control display on screen at all times. A quick rewrite of the FE code for portrait mode and I'd be set. Got to say, it looks absolutely beautiful and makes me realise how poor existing small car LCD displays are. I feel the urge to re-do the installation.

Even a cheap screen like the one on my Asus (1366x768) makes it obvious how bad almost all the car touchscreens have been. And the Nexus 7? Fugeddaboutit! Just like your Surface Pro, it's so crystal clear and precise you just don't want to look at anything else.

Exactly, and I thought I had an above average screen, at least it was compared to most other units. You are so right, dam it was so disappointing putting the old screen back in and looking at. Sigh!
