Single USB port Charging and Data adaptor on HP Stream 8 and others.

A lot of small Window tablets don't have a separate charge port, a single USB port is used to either Charge the Tablet or to plug a USB device into.

I have a HP Stream 8 and the Manufacturers usual response is: No, you can't run a USB device and charge at the same time.

I came across this $16.00 device and decided to give it a try - it works.

It's a very compact 4 port USB OTG Hub and Charger for a lot of the tablets out there - A list of known supported tablets is on the site.

Your Tablet charger plugs into one end, other end has a flying lead that plugs into the Tablets USB/Charge port. It appears to be well made and it works on the HP Stream 8.

It appears to charge as normal, however I have not tried it with the battery below 80%.

If you are powering a number of USB devices and charging using the OEM charger (via the HUB ports) then, depending on USB current, it is entirely possible that charging times will be longer as available charging current is consumed by the USB devices.

The most important thing for me is that Tablet battery capacity is not reduced whist running multiple USB devices and full screen brightness.

Just measured the charging current & voltage from the OEM charger. It's the same with or without the OTG Hub/Charger.

In other words, charging current remained the same (without power hungry USB devices plugged in).

Again this is for a Battery at 90% - I'll test when it's down to around 30%.

I wonder if this would work with my "Nextbook 8" ?
I didn't see it listed for compatibility.
It's pretty much the same specs as your HP Stream except screen def. and storage.
Hmm,.... I was thinking about getting this unit soon

I think HP Stream is in the list of compatibility tabs.
....but this is a nice find too. Won't be able to do a duo screen setup, but I wasn't gonna anyway. And this is much cheaper too I guess..
I may grab up one of these, if it doesn't work it's not like I'll break the bank.

That was also my thoughts on this device at the price. Could not find anyone charging while using USB devices on a Stream 8 - but yesterday I noticed a few posts showing up from someone also using this with success on his unit. Worst case is you end up with a neat tiny 4 port USB2 HUB.

The device you linked to shows a customer reporting it works on a Stream 8. Its a very nice unit and I looked at something like that, but like you I won't be using a 2nd screen and I already have a small USB to LAN module (for my Surface PRO 2) which works perfectly with the Stream 8 as well. So this small unit is all I need.

Excellent find Mickz. Charger/OTG Hub looks great. I would like to use HP Stream 7 as car pc and was looking for something like this. Quick question, if you don't mind experimenting a little, does the hub needs to be powered before connecting to the Stream or can the hub be connected continuously and power supply be turned off and on while HP Stream starts charging when power to the hub is turned on?

With the switch in position 2:

When power is removed from the HUB, USB devices are disconnected from Windows, it's like unplugging the HUB from the Tablet. Reapplying power causes Windows to reinitialise all USB devices connected to the HUB and the Tablet starts to charge.

    FYI:
With Switch in position 1: Hub is powered from the Tablet - no charging.

I don't have the Tablet here at the moment but from memory in position 3: HUB acts like a powered HUB - no charging.

Hmm, would be interesting to see how well this would work with my Tablet. But since it has a separate charging port I just wouldn't use the charging portion of either piece.

With the hub you show if you have it in switch position 3 and you pull the power from the hub will the hub try to power its self from the tablet?
Someone on here has commented that their tablet lost its charge when they disconnect power from their powered hub and I am guessing that their tablet will charge other devices when off much like how my laptop will charge my phone even though it is off.

Would likely work as intended with either of my Android tablets...

The switch position 2 seems what I need. I will be ordering the hub as soon as I get home. Thanks Mickz.
