I have a P233 with 128meg ram running WinXP as a File Sharing Server. It's up time is over the 250 day mark and I found it in the trash.

    Exclamation Slowwwwwww

File server and running MP3's while using a GPS with Microsoft Mappoint is a little different.

The Tablet you are looking at is a rip-off. My Pocket PC runs Windows CE and it's twice as fast (cost me twice cheaper).
Buy a real tablet that runs XP. Here are some affordable options:

With a wifi connection in your car, all you will have to do is fire up your trunk pc and then click twice to connect to it. You will have full control of your PC from your tablet (full-screen control that is) without wires. Basically it will feel like you have a wireless monitor
    I just bought the Stylistic 3400 ( http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI...488426464&rd=1 )
I think it comes with win 4.0, I guess I can load XP on it? or what do ya'll think would be best?

I like the wifi idea, and may do that. It would be nice to do the install without all the wires.

What he is looking at is not a Tablet PC! It is a wireless thin client. It would work perfect for what he is suggesting (if you want video you may to do some research). The thin client has a built in touchscreen, ie, terminal emulation, wireless, OSK, RDP, and ICA. I have one at home controlling my medai server in the basement for distributing mp3 for whole house audio, videos and ripped DVD's through an RF modulator to all of my TV's, and video from my media server for my Home THeater!

I also have 6 of these type devices at work and RDP works great if i need to check email real fast while i'm working on a system out in the warehouse.

Sounds like a good idea. You could also use it to control your pc from several hundred feet away from your car!

Let me know if you have any specific questions on how to do any of this!!

and the nay-sayer says nay, again.

as far as the 3400 goes, you should be able to run XP on it. the Fujitsu site only shows drivers for W2K, but they should work with XP. the only thing you should really be concerned with is the pen driver.

after alittle searching... it doesn't seem to work, atleast not with the W2K driver. If you can get a copy of XP Tablet PC Edition, it will work. I'll ask around, though. the driver i'm using on my 2300 isn't intended for a 2300, but it works perfectly.

or, you could just use W2K. it will perform better anyway.

@muldrick, you most likely will be able to use the mainstream version of Windows XP (any version that is, not just Tablet Edition), but I doubt that this is a good idea. Sure this Tablet has 400 mhz and 192 megs of RAM, but it still might not be fast enough. I suggest you install Win98 SE, it's a good operating system. Besides, it wouldn't matter what OS you have on the tablet - you will be controlling your big PC and seing the big PC's screen. So if you have XP on the big PC, you will be seing XP on the Tablet

Congratulations on your buy. This looks like a good piece. In fact, you could easilly use it as your carputer just by itself without the big pc in your trunk. I would probably do that

The best thing is that if you decide to incorporate wireless control, you will be able to control your car's PC even outside the car with virtually any computer that has wifi and necessary software installed You could buy one of those "Basic Interface Devices" and make your PC control your car's locks, windows, lights, etc. You could have that Tablet act as your car keys

    My 2nd carputer - b4 I broke the touchscreen
My very first carputer - voted the most ghetto

Yeahhhh...maybe I can get it to vacuum itself.....or...... change the engine oil

What about just leaving the NT 4.0 on it?
Yes, I could use it as the carputer by itself, but the big pc is much faster and I've got 120Gb of harddrive space on it. (8 Gigs of mp3's) and other software. (Besides, plenty of room in the truck)
Anyhow, could I just leave NT4.0 on the tablet? I've never even used 4.0, I've heard it is pretty limited?

Any threads here on "Basic Interface Devices"?

Well, NT doesn't support USB. I don't know, I never used it. It's similar to Windows 95 in a way, only it's more limited because not all software runs on it. However, NT stands for networking, so if you just want to remote control the big PC, it will be a good idea to just leave the NT. After all, you won't have to go through the trouble to install all the specific drivers such as touchscreen, etc.
I know that RAdmin has advanced support for NT. Also NT is pretty fast.
